Day 28 | Seoul (Last Day)

Saturday 9 November, 2024

Missed the last post? Check it out here

Our final day! This trip has been so enjoyable and the four weeks have flown by. We are pretty exhausted and plan to have a relaxing one today, doing things we enjoy on our last day.

Today is a bit warmer with a top of 20°c. It’s the first time we see people running along the Hangang in t-shirts instead of being layered up with their usual long sleeves and jackets.

Junsik is with us so we head to 아라운드 그린 ‘Around Green’ for lunch. We like supporting local businesses, especially when the food is so good.

Afterwards we plan to head to a tea house nearby called T. Nomad but as we try to enter the staff member tells us you need to make a reservation and it’s full today. We suddenly have déjà vu as it’s the exact same thing that happened last year.

We end up going to a cafe called 단고당 ‘Dango Tang’. It has a nice outdoor set up with two levels of seating inside.

The sun is out so we decide to sit outside and it actually gets quite hot. We order our drinks and the cafe gives you a gachapon if you spend more than 10,000 won.

We get a small black cat which Belinda wants to throw far away because she loves cats so much (refer to yesterday’s post).

We spend a few hours drinking and chatting and agree that we have attracted at least another half dozen groups of customers by sitting outside.

As we walk back to the house we wander past Mangwon Markets and the huge Saturday crowd. If you want to avoid the mass of people and line ups, we recommend visiting during weekdays.

We want to stop by Ugly Bakery again but the line up is out the door and across the road so we give it a miss.

There are loud fruit and vegetable vendors shouting their daily specials at every street corner.

Later in the afternoon, Junsik says his goodbyes and we head to 우삼촌 카레 ‘Uncle Woo Curry’ for dinner.

We order the 공 카레 Vegan Bean Curry and some naan bread. One of the staff makes the naan from scratch and we can see her rolling it by hand.

The food comes out in a flash and it’s delicious. It’s a fusion of Japanese style curry with Indian flavours. Highly recommended if you’re around the area, plus they serve non-vegan dishes too if meat or seafood is your thing.

Today has been a perfect relaxing ending to a great trip. We’ve really enjoyed every bit of it, even the days that were rainy or cold. We look forward to sharing our next adventure with you!

Gonna leave this here because cornflake, potato & yam and mugwort tea all sound intriguing!
