Day 23 | Andong to Seoul

Missed the last post? Check it out here

Today we head back to Seoul for our final week of travel. This trip has gone so quickly!

We start by cycling to Andong Bus Terminal for the 11:30am bus. It’s the last time we will cycle the beautiful Andong cycle way, something we don’t take for granted. It’s pretty chilly but the 9km to the station goes by quickly.

Upon arrival we buy our tickets as you can only purchase them on the day.

We pack the bikes up and as the bus is already there waiting we pop them straight into the luggage compartment to beat the rush later.

The trip takes about 3 hours, with one stop along the way. We stop at Yeoju rest area for about 15 minutes, which has all the usual offerings for a Korean rest area including cafeteria, take out food, convenience store and souvenirs.

The bus arrives at Seoul Express Bus Terminal at 2:15pm. Note that Seoul Gyeongbu station (서울경부) is the same as Seoul Express Bus Terminal – the names and number of stations in South Korea can cause much confusion.

When we were in at Dongdaegu bus terminal the other day, Cheye helped these poor travellers who had pre-bought the wrong tickets online from West Daegu station instead. Korean bus tickets are refundable but only if you request it with enough notice. Unfortunately their bus was due to depart in the next 10 minutes from a completely different station!

We put the bikes together for the last time on this trip and make our way towards Gangnam to drop our bikes off and pick up our luggage.

After dropping the bikes off we head to our AirBnB in Hapjeong via the subway. The Seoul subway lines are always chaos regardless of the time if day, but it’s an organised chaos.

It takes about an hour to get to our accommodation and it’s nice to be back in Hapjeong, which is an area we like very much. It’s close to the river, markets and great food places.

We head out for dinner to Darc En Ciel, a small vegan cafe not far from where we are staying.

It’s a cute, dimly lit place and we decide to order a few pizzas as we’re pretty famished.

The pizzas are huge. I wouldn’t technically call them pizzas but whatever they are they’re very good.

The night is cold as we make our way back to the AirBnB while planning for our week ahead. We have a few things locked in and a few free days to continue exploring!
