Day 18 | Fukuoka (Baseball Day)

Wednesday 30 October, 2024

Missed the previous post? Check it out here

Today is baseball day! We’ve had a bit of an ordeal getting tickets as they are all sold out and there were some issues with delivery. But we finally have tickets in hand, ready to go for tonight’s game.

We bought two ticket but received four! Too bad we don’t know anyone in Fukuoka

We start by visiting Chabuya again for some vegan curry.

It’s such a great little place and has a lot of different craft beer options.

We then head to Papa’s Puff Stand, and small food truck that serves vegan waffles and ice cream but unfortunately they are closed. There is a sign on the window advertising for staff so it looks like they are struggling a bit as their Instagram page only has them opening once every few weeks which is a shame.

We head to the baseball stadium in the late afternoon, following a crowd of others who are also attending the game as we get closer.

The dome holds over 40,000 people and like yesterday, tonight’s game is also sold out.

The Fukuoka Hawks are playing the Yokohama Baystars in their second home game. The atmosphere is wild with much excitement in the air. After entering the gates, we see many food outlets, all with massive queues so we decide to go straight to our seats and grab some food once it has settled down.

From the inside, Mizuho Done is super impressive. The first few innings remain scoreless with loads of entertainment in the form of team chants, music, cheerleaders and beer girls. Those beer girls work so hard running up and down the stairs, selling cups of beer to thirsty punters.

The first run is scored by the Baystars with a home run. Their pitcher is also an absolute weapon and they keep him on until the 7th innings.

Hawks fans ready to release a sea of yellow balloons

The Baystars score another 4 runs to win the game 5-0, evening the score to 2 games all. For those that don’t know, the baseball final is won by a best of 7 series, ie. the first team to win 4 games.

Tomorrow will be our last day in Fukuoka. It’ll probably be more of a relaxing day, winding down from the excitement from tonight’s game!
