A 50km ride to the small town of Taketa starting with a slow steady hill and finishing with 826m of descent over 24km.

We’re feeling it a bit after yesterday’s massive day of hiking though!

It’s cool and overcast most of the day which meant the downhills were pretty chilly.

Our first peak at Shiroyama lookout has a pretty awesome view.

We stick mostly to the main roads but there are a few smaller streets which make for a nice detour, except when we come across mud.

As we approach the town of Taketa the food options seem pretty slim. We decide to drop into a big supermarket called Sunlive about 3km from our hotel and pick up some dinner for later.

We also spot a nice looking cafe bakery on the map and make our way there but it doesn’t seem to exist. We end up dropping by a Hirai store and grab lunch there instead.

We then stop by Nageia Coffee, a minimalist cafe a few blocks from our hotel.

We grab a coffee and cardamom banana bread.

It’s finally time to check into our hotel which is pretty quiet when we arrive.

It’s an older style hotel attached to a pub but the room is a decent size.

Taketa is a sleepy town and I think we’ve ended up in another one those hotels for business men. Tomorrow we continue cycling back towards the coast to the town of Saiki. It looks like it might rain all day tomorrow but we will find out in the morning!
