Today’s journey is longer than yesterday, but mostly on the highway with a few hills. It’s about 58km from Huis Ten Bosch to Nagasaki so we set off around 10am.

As we set off, the conditions are sunny but quite windy. The first few kms are a head wind, but as we are backtracking to our main route this quickly turns into a tail wind, which is great.

We ride along the roads for a bit until the Sunday traffic starts to build up, when we move onto the footpath where it’s safer but sometimes a bit nerve wracking as it can get quite steep or narrow, sometimes both.

There are some spectacular views along the way.

We stop for a quick break and drink at the 40km mark near a big shopping mall but move on very quickly as there are a few final hills to tackle.

The hills are relatively painless compared to those from the Karatsu to Imari ride two days earlier. We arrive at our hotel at 2:30pm, and they let us check in a bit earlier today, possibly because Dormy Inn is a bigger hotel chain.

We park our bikes in the parking lots next door and have a nice chat to the car park attendant. Turns out he has visited many areas of Australia including Sydney, Cairns and Ayres Rock.

When we drop our stuff off in the room there’s a small surprise waiting in the fridge for us.

We head straight down to the 7-11 for a late kombini lunch as it’s already 3pm (aka first diner). We unintentionally pick up the same stuff as last night’s dinner: Champon noodles and fried soba, plus a side of kimchi.

We notice our hotel has a bunch of included extras for its guests. These include free ice pops, ramen and Yakult, a public onsen and free use of the massage chairs and manga.

The shared room also has a great view of the city and mountains.

As we didn’t eat until quite late, we have second dinner around 9:30pm. Tomorrow is our first rest day so we can have a later night out for once. We head to Coco Ichibanya curry house which is always reliable and consistently good.

This particular branch also has plant based curry, which is even better.

We wander around town a bit more before heading back to our hotel for the night.
