The rain overnight seems to have settled when we wake up although it’s a lot more overcast than yesterday.

We decide to have a quick breakfast and head off around 10am. The hotel serves a great Japanese breakfast buffet with rice, noodles, sides, salad and a few western items.

As we set up our bikes we notice it’s extremely humid and still quite hot despite the rain.

It’s sprinkling a little but nothing major. However, the clouds look thick, grey and a little worrying.

About 5km into our ride it starts raining. Then it starts pouring. Then comes the lightning and thunder. We decide to hide under an apartment block for the next hour or so waiting for it to ease up.

Cheye’s phone has stopped working because of the rain so Belinda take over the navigating on her phone.

Despite the clouds, the rest of the ride is great. We are always still in awe when riding around these sorts of areas, filled with mountains, forest, farmland and rivers.

About 4km out from our hotel we stop by a big shopping plaza to grab some lunch and pick up some supplies. There is a MaxValu inside so we decide to buy both lunch and dinner as we’re not sure what the food options are around our accommodation tonight.

Outside the store is a small market with a bunch of stalls, including a coffee stand that Cheye grabs a mocha from. The shop assistants are so lovely.

We continue on and make it to our hotel around 2pm, Hotel Lorelei. Once again we are unable to check in until 3pm so we spend the next hour or so sorting out the bikes and pumping up the tyres.

Once checked in, we head up to our room which is massive.

It also has a pretty awesome view of the river and Hotel Okura across the water, which is one of the fancy/expensive hotels right next to Huis Ten Bosch theme park.

We head across to check out the Dutch village which is fascinating. It’s an entire village and theme park based around the Netherlands.

The main Theme Park zone costs 7,400 yen (AUD $74) for a single day pass. There is also the Harbor zone area which is free to enter. As we arrive quite late we decide to just check out the Harbor zone, however it turns out it’s either a bus ride (which isn’t due for an hour) or a 40 minute walk around the outside road. It’s also about to start raining again so we decide to head back to hotel, but not before visiting the nearby Lawson’s.

We’ve already bought dinner earlier so we pick up some drinks and snacks for later.

It’s a relatively chilled night as we have a bigger day of cycling ahead of us tomorrow as we head into the town of Nagasaki.
