A quick two days in Gochang to knock out a few courses in the area before moving on!
Day 40: Tuesday 6 May. Today we departed Yeonggwang and caught the intercity bus to Gochang where we will spend the next few days. We have a good system going where we drop our bags off at our booked hotel before catching the local bus to our course 🚍 Today we hiked a cruisy 11km along courses 43 and 44, and have to say it was one of the more boring courses done out of necessity to tick off the list. It was much like yesterday’s course but without the wind turbines. We managed to finish and get to the bus stop in the nick of time which was extremely lucky as I think this particular route only runs twice daily. And as we boarded the bus it starts raining which was even luckier 🌧️ Back in Gochang town we visit the fortress, local market and neighbourhood park. Lunch at a Kimbap joint and prep for a big day of mountain climbing tomorrow ⛰️
Day 41: Wednesday 7 May. Really enjoyable day in the mountains today 💚 Hiked 16km along courses 41 and 42. Started with a quick 4km along the coast before climbing Gaeippalsan Mountain to 346m and did just over 500m in elevation ⛰️ The views were so green and lush. Saw some temples and the hike along the river was really lovely. Lots of people out today because the weather was so nice. Went to a cafe before catching the bus back to town 🚍 We are becoming quite the experts in local bus timetables; one thing we have learnt is to trust the printed timetable boards! Had a nice chat to some of the locals who all tell us we speak Korean well. Baekban for dinner at 토속집 which was super spicy and delicious 🌶️
